Colwyn Bay boasts a beach longer than the Copacabana in Rio! Essential coastal defence work enabled the creation of an attractive new, dry beach in 2012 with a further extension in 2014.
In the summer months the beach is a haven for families looking to relax and play together, and out-of-season attracts avid walkers and passing drivers, keen to stretch their legs and breathe in some sea air.
Based in the impressive new Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay Watersports is also on hand to offer some seaside fun to the more active visitor. There are a wide range of classes available including sailing, windsurfing and power boating as well as hire of kayaks, canoes, windsurfs and dinghy’s from just half an hour through to all day.
Every May sees thousands of people travel to Porth Eirias for the annual Prom Xtra festival weekend. Prom Xtra stretches over two miles of beach and promenade making it a major event in the town.
A day time event, suitable for all ages, and with many activities free to participate in, Prom Xtra has a number of zones containing various forms of entertainment and fun including ‘Prom Live’ which brings in fresh entertaining talent including X factor stars and familiar faces from past shows as well as some great local performers . A traditional fun fair also helps creates that seaside town buzz and is a firm family favourite.
